It’s the Ear
It’s the Attitude
It’s the Body
It’s the Intention
It’s the skills to pull it all off
It’s important to work with a teacher that understands the right combination of vocal technique and actual singing. A teacher that understands how to organically teach you to feel the components of the voice throughout your body and then encourages you to apply these techniques in such a way that they become part of you, and sound natural. It never makes sense to think that if someone is focusing only on mastering a vocal skill that it will automatically find it’s way into their singing. There is an art to teaching the process correctly, all the while staying in tune with the learning patterns of the individual student. Everyone learns differently, and it’s key to understand this. It’s also very unlikely that just using some very vague voice coaching advice and running it into the ground will yield any lasting results, except more bad singing habits. It’s key that the teacher be a specialist and truly understand the physiology and psychology of the entire singing experience. This way some highly technical concepts can be taught and applied very quickly, without the need for the student to overthink the whole process. Because great singing is an act of coordination, and needs to happen at once, as though it is one thing, even though in truth it is a whole series of events.
