For Advanced Singers and Aspiring Professionals
The bar is high…………….just because it was easy to become average doesn’t mean it’s easy to become great. It’s too easy for some people to become good enough to get by………but taking that next step to really singing (verses almost singing), takes a commitment.
Just because someone lives in a place where people learn to drive early, on country roads for example, and therefore driving is natural to them, doesn’t mean they’re ready for the racetrack
Becoming great isn’t about singing the highest note. It’s about connecting emotional content and energy to an honest story. But stories have drama. And music is a unique medium to tell that story. And voice is a powerful instrument to play. Or rather, it has the potential to be.
Take some Time and choose your teacher wisely. Shopping for voice lessons by the lowest price is like comparing a walk in health clinic to a Medical Specialist. There are just some things in life that require seeking out the best help you can get. It will quite possibly save you years of frustration and in the end be a much better value.
For Beginners
Whether you’re a beginner with aspirations of becoming a star or just want to experience this thing called singing, it is important to find the right teacher to work with. Do not shop by cheapest price or purely by the convenience of the closest voice teacher to you. It is so difficult for singers shopping for voice professionals to distinguish between qualified an “not so qualified” teachers. So basically do some research and then use your best judgement. If after a while with whichever teacher you choose, you’re not seeing positive results, or are experiencing any sort of vocal discomfort, you need to keep searching for a more competent teacher. Great voice teachers have extensive training in all of the aspects of voice, both mechanically, musically and in the incorporation of both.
For All Singers
what’s the point of vocal exercises and techniques unless they are in context to actual singing?
what’s the point of learning vocal warm ups unless they are taught correctly in the first place, and you learn the proper order to do them in?
what’s the point of learning vocal technique unless you’re learning to apply it and make your singing sound good and improve significantly at the same time?
Many people have a lot of intense feelings, memories and history around singing, and a fair share of phobias. Therefore understanding the psychology of singing is equally as important as understanding the mechanics.
Bring out the Super Hero in the Singer
Every Super Hero needs a Mad Scientist for assistance. A gifted individual that can identify and develop the “true” and natural gift of the individual singer. This skill is every bit as important as the methodology the teacher uses to teach.
You need to be teachable. We all need to be teachable, including the teachers. Teach yourself to reach for great singing…..!!!
